Fire Safety and Fire Risk Assessments

Course Overview

This one-day course is aimed at managers, safety officers and other employees who are responsible for fire safety and for carrying out fire risk assessments in their workplace.

It has been designed to provide delegates with a full appreciation of the legal and practical issues involved in the management of fire safety and related risk assessments.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 came into force in October 2006. Fire certificates for commercial premises have been abolished and have been replaced with a requirement to carry out fire risk assessments.

In most workplaces the person charged with this responsibility will be the actual employer.

It is therefore vital that employers ensure that they have competent people to carry out this responsibility and related tasks, who possess the necessary level of knowledge and awareness in fire safety and fire risk assessments.

During the course delegates will learn both the legal framework and how to apply this to an overall fire prevention strategy.

Course objectives

Upon completion of this one-day course, delegates will have a good knowledge and awareness in the following areas:
  • Current and forthcoming legislation
  • Common sources of ignition and fire
  • Responsibilities of employers
  • Completing a fire risk assessment
  • Fire safety plans
  • Fire detection and warning systems
  • Emergency procedures and means of escape
  • Fire fighting equipment
  • Maintenance and testing of fire precautions
